absoluteBLACK will be in contact with each of you shortly.
For everybody else who entered, many thanks and best of luck next time.
This week's competition is another fantastic offer from our friends at absoluteBLACK. Hot off the back of this year's incredible success in the Grand Tours, with GRAPHENlube-equipped riders taking the yellow jersey in the Tour de France plus red and green in the Vuelta, absoluteBLACK have launched a Hot Wax! Not just any wax of course... continuing with their exciting innovative approach, it's known as GRAPHENwax.
absoluteBLACK are supplying 10 boxes of GRAPHENwax (4 blocks per box) to give away worth £24.95 each. They’ve also given us some to review, but as it’s so new you'll have come back to the site to read about that later as the testing is still ongoing.
For those not accustomed to waxing their chain, it might come as a bit of a surprise as you'll need to get yourself a little crock-pot kitchen setup in the garage/workshop in order to prepare your chain. You can of course do it in the house, just make sure you don't use any food pans!
Whether you’ve waxed a chain before or not, before it’s well worth watching absoluteBlack’s how to video to see how it’s done. It actually looks pretty straight forward!
What is GRAPHENwax?
We'll hand over to absoluteBLACK to tell us more: “In simple terms it’s a wax with a specially modified crystalline structure and a mix of additives with high purity graphene which makes it very pliable. Wax-based lubricants exhibit far greater tolerance to water and dirt contamination, successfully separating moving chain parts from abrasion and filling in all the imperfections on friction surfaces.
"Graphene – the wonder material that is still not commonly used because of its incredibly high cost – is a great additive for a few reasons. It has extremely low friction coefficient in all environments, is far stronger than any known material and it can cling to metal, protecting friction surfaces from excessive abrasion. Moreover, it repels the water and is not permeable to air.
"Even a single atom layer is enough to reduce the friction considerably.”
Additional claims and info from absoluteBLACK, including application tips:
- World's first pliable hot melt chain wax formula with Graphene
- Super pliable, non-crumble, quiet, clean and extremely easy to break-in formula
- Exhibits excellent durability whilst maintaining impressively low friction for a prolonged period of time in both wet and dry conditions
- Easiest wax to break-in after chain cools down –simply hold your chain in one hand and run it between two fingers of your free hand (as per our video) and job done - no more solid sticks or back-pedalling issues
- It's everything you wished for in a hot melt wax. Perfect for road, triathlon, gravel, mtb and e-bike. Keeps your drivetrain spotlessly clean
- Quietest hot melt wax you will ever use
- Works very well with GRAPHENlube on long rides - just top up with lube, and there is no need to re-clean chain
As usual absoluteBLACK have a lot of info on their site, so please check out all the technical info here.
How long does it last?
absoluteBLACK say: “Each chain treatment uses only 3-4g (0.14oz) of wax if you let it drip back into the crockpot while it dries. If you clean your chain with boiling water (see video above), let it dry and then wax, you could get around 62 treatments and still have 100g (3.5oz) left in the pot to guarantee full immersion of the chain.
"It's only a matter of how much you contaminate the wax or how well you clean the chain with boiling water prior to every waxing. Wax will still last the same number of applications regardless of cleaning, but if you contaminate the wax too much, it will no longer be as effective.”
Whether you use GRAPHENwax with GRAPHENlube or on its own, it looks like a very useful chain application for smoother rides. Just make sure you don’t use someone’s favourite egg pan from the kitchen or you’ll be in trouble... you’ve been warned!
All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning some GRAPHENwax is enter the competition below by filling out the form. Apologies to our Latin American readers, this one is not open for you.
Best of luck to all!

And presumably you don't have as much media over there stoking the divisions and encouraging the view of cyclists as "other"?
