Loads of current and previous F1 drivers keep up their fitness with road cycling. Speaking with regards to the wider motoring community, arguably the better performance car drivers are the ones who also ride bikes.
Presumably he told the driver why he was wrong and the driver was unable to rebut his "I am a driver too" comment.
I hope he heals up quickly. When someone as hgh profile as him is injured by a driver, it does highlight the risks all of us on two wheels.
Though I saw lots of comments on F1 fan boards criticising him for engaging in 'risky' behaviour by riding a bike and that racing an F1 car was safer, which I thought was an interesting take from some petrol heads. They perceive for instance something like what happened with Grosjean last year, a 50+ G impact piercing a metal barrier with a fireball, to be safer than riding a bicycle...
Hopefully the injuries arent as bad as first thought and he's back racing, and riding soon.
TBF the fact he walked away shows F1 cars have incredible safety cells to protect the drivers. So in relative terms it's safe.
Wishing Fernando a very speedy recovery.
Agreed. Heal well and fast and I hope they get / convict the driver if they
were at fault.
Very subtle, Tim Vine would be proud. I am sure Fernando's recovery will be 'speedy.'
