Five cool things coming soon from Wilier Triestina, Topeak, Zilfer, Effetto and Sportful

Another selection of the best bikes and gear we're testing at the moment, with reviews coming soon...

Another week, another exciting selection of bikes and bits that have flown through the office and on to our intrepid team of testers. Here’s the cream of the crop we've picked to preview this week...

Effetto Mariposa Giustaforza 1-8 Deluxe torque wrench

£110.00

Effetto Mariposa Giustaforza 1-8 Deluxe torque wrench.jpg

This snazzy torque wrench set has a small head to operate in tight spaces (not a euphemism) and comes wrapped in a neat package to keep everything together. It has a capacity from 1 up to 8 Nm for the most precise of tightening jobs, and is easy to use with a clear torque scale so you always know your setting. A loud click allows you to hear when your desired torque has been reached. Is it worth the hefty lump of cash? Mat Brett is finding out now...

Sportful Bodyfit Classic bib shorts

£80.00

Sportful BodyFit Classic Bib Shorts - riding.jpg

These all-round race bibs from Sportful have their BodyFit Pro chamois pad to keep you comfortable over long rides, with variable padding and improved moisture management compared to the previous versions. The mesh upper has also been improved with extra Lycra used to give more stretch and even more comfort, so say Sportful. They borrow tech from Sportful's pro bibs as worn by the Bora-Hansgrohe team, and were developed with pro riders. Do they offer pro performance for the reasonable price? Alex Williams is testing them now...

Wilier Jena
£3399.99

Wilier Jena - front.jpg

With a classic-looking logo, 650b wheels and an Ultegra drivetrain the Jena has all the makings of a modern adventure classic. The whole bike weighs a shade over 9kg and it has a full carbon frame and forks to absorb every bump, while the Miche 966 650B wheels with 27.5" Mavic tyres should offer a fast-rolling and grippy ride. R8070 hydraulic disc brakes come as standard and the only cables you see are neatly routed into the frame at the front. Is the Jena a stroke of genius from Wilier-Triestina? The review is coming later this month.

Zilfer Active Proof phone wallet

£50.00

Zilfer Active Proof Phone Wallet - front.jpg

This smart phone case is built for the outdoors and has pockets for your phone, keys and cards so you needn't carry your valuable in different bags and pockets. The material is durable and water-resistant with a YKK zipper, and it's got a welded construction with no stitches for the strongest protection from the elements. The dimensions of 172mm x 82mm x 15mm should mean it will fit in any standard jersey pocket, and you'll be able to get an iPhone 7 (not Plus size), and up to four cards in there.

Topeak Roadie DA mini pump

£29.99

Topeak Roadie DA Hand Pump - dial.jpg

Though you can get a cheaper version of the Roadie, this one comes with a pressure gauge for more precise pumping (again not a euphemism), and has a durable plastic body with an aluminium head. It's Presta valve only, and the pressure gauge goes up to 120psi. Weighing just 132g and being pretty diminutive in size, it should fit in most jersey pockets and a large saddle bag at a push. Does it do the job in an emergency and more? Mike Stenning will be airing his opinion in the test report, coming later in June...

No problems with my Effetto either, brilliant solid bit of kit, second hand it was too. Numbers all still present and correct. Bought my own bits though, I'm particular about them.

I've either had or still have several Topeak pumps, I currently have a Racerocket HP and the Road Morph G, and both of those pumps are great, but I also had the Micro Rocket that claimed 160 psi but I could only struggle to 65 psi with it after about 400 strokes.  But from the way the Roadie Da series looks built I would say 120 psi would be pushing it since it's smaller than the Race Rocket HP, if I were to guess I would say between about 75 to 85 will be its max psi, but it looks to be solidly constructed.

I've had my Effetto since 2011 - no issues so far with it.

I’ve had that torque wrench for 2-3 years. The white numbers used to set the nm you desire has worn off and makes it really hard to set. The bits also round fairly easily. I wouldn’t spend the money on this brand again.

"pressure gauge goes up to 120psi."  The speedo in my car goes up to 160mph,  doesn't change its top speed of 112mph though.

The sportful shorts look like they are made from a similar material to the Stolen Goat ones, which are incredibly comfortable.
