SURVEY - Tell us about your road shoes

My name is Stephen Quay and I am the Product Manager for shoes at Specialized.
I'm looking for some feedback about why you ride road bikes, and what shoes you've selected and why.

If you'd like to participate, here is a link to a simple 5-question survey: http://www.survey-maker.com/QRWMBCN

Thanks in advance for your time and feedback.

If you're new please join in and if you have questions pop them below and the forum regulars will answer as best we can.

I think there was a question missing, so added the comment "Yup - I can get off the bike and walk in them, they would be no use otherwise!"

I use the bike to go explore, can't explore if I can't get off and walk, pretty obvious need, really unless you're in a race.

Personally I don't want to walk into my local cafe/tea shop and ruin thier nice floor with my cycling shoes!

I'd expect to get sacked if I put that out and I don't work for anywhere like as corporate as Specialized.

I did put the free text area to good use to tell you how fragile the Boa dials have been on my S-Works road shoes. I go through at least two pairs of dials a year.

They're not going to learn a lot from that survey.  Having said that, I did another poorly thought-out survey on water bottles the other day clearly compiled by someone who'd never ridden a bike with a water bottle.  Keep it up Road.cc.  How about quality testing the survery before you ask us to take part?

I don't think you can really pin the blame on Road.cc - they just provide a free forum. Blame the person doing the posting for the poor quality surveys.

That water bottle survey was heroically bad.

Have you looked at the 5 10 freerider eps, also in mid/high.  Ugly as hell, but insulated and more weather resistant than standard.

Re winter shoes - please can you research the market for waterproof flat pedal shoes? Am I the only gravel rider riding flats in the winter? There are plenty of SPD options but none of them are truly compatible or secure for riding on a wet flat pedal, even with aggressive pins.

Are you in the market for Gore-Tex socks? I don't have any anymore (sadly - need to get some...); just wonder if that would work half-decent.

Far too limited and pretty pointless, this will tell you nothing important because of the overly simplistic questions and answer options.

Can I recommend adding in some options about requirements e.g. winter shoes, wide-fitting etc.

Done.

Survey limited my respones slightly, would have ticked 4 of the 5 'why do you ride' boxes if I could.

Have just seen the new more affordable Torch Shoes with 4 different colour schemes, where were they when I was buying my last pair of shoes!

Keep it up Specialized, nice to have colour options at the cheaper end of the range laugh
