Question on Alex Boondocks 3 Wheels

Hello

I have a set of  Alex Boondocks 3 700C wheels that I am currently using with a quick release. I would like to move them to a bike with through axles. Apparently this wheel set has the ability to accept either method of retention.

I would need to acquire thru-axles, but would these be standard "off the shelf"  items or would  they be unique to the Alex Rims?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Vic

Tim, thank you for your response. Very useful info.

I'm buying a frame to do my own build. It is designed for thru-axles. I would think then that the frame would come with its own Thru-Axles (?).

Happy New Year.

Thru-axles are specific to the bike frame and not the wheels. This is because there is alot of variation in thread pitches and sizes use between manufacters. So you can (and should) continue to use the thru-axles that came with the frame when replacing wheels. Adapting the wheel hubs to accept thru-axles will invole replacing the end caps on either side to the compatible type. These will be specific to the hub type/brand in the wheel.
