New site layout makes forum hard to use

The new ad heavy site layout makes the forum hard to use, as if you use anything except a full screen window on a decent sized monitor the advert bar at the left (as opposed to the two advert bars at the right!) overlays on top of the content of the forum.
Maybe need to give priority to the forum content over the adverts, although given that the adverts account for about 60% of the width of the page this would make for a very tall thin forum if the ads stay as a fixed size when the window is resized.

Using Chrome in Windows 10 adblockplus is blocking all forum replies and all comments below main page stories, just get the wee circle of loading.

Guess that may be by design!

EDIT: Ignore that, now I have signed in to make the above comment I can see forum and main page comments even with Adblockplus on (which seems to not block most of the ads anyway!)

And why do we have to have the ‘immovable ad bar’ sitting at the bottom of the screen in the way of scrolling?

I can't replicate this problem: send me a screenshot and browser/OS details? dave [at] road.cc

the left/right ad bars should only show on screens wide enough to display them, they shouldn't ever overlay the content

there aren't any more ads than there previously were, by the way.

I edited to add the screenshot into the post, https://ibb.co/THxD3yx that's using microsoft edge in windows 10 on 1920x1080 resolution.  Also tried in chrome on the same computer and see the same problem.

Maybe the same amount of ads, but they seem to be in much more prominent places that take priority over the content of a page.  Eg, this page has 4 columns, 3 of which are ads and that is underneath a full width header ad at the top.

does it happen on other areas of the site, or is it just on the forum?
