I think THR will play a game and use the lead out train to erode points for the intermediate sprints. So they will use Goss and Renshaw etc to lessen the effects of Hushovd, Boonen, Petacchi, so Cavendish can concentrate on winning the stages and not lose to many oints in the green jersey classement.

ok thanks. I think thats a good solution. It pays off to invest in breakaway riders but the points are not oversized.
summit stage finishes don't get any KM points, so no change there. interesting news on the cat 1/2/3 climbs though. the rationale will be the same though: if six riders score, the points available will be 6,5,4,3,2,1. so that would appear to make it:
HC: 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
Cat 1/2/3: 6,5,4,3,2,1
Cat 4: 1
get your breakaway boys in for the Cat 3s and 2s then
So in theory i rider could score 40 points and still be last in the GC?
If they go away in a break, win the intermediate sprint, go over an HC climb, get most combative and then die a death and finish last in GC
This could put a big twist on some peoples teams
Mountains in the tour: however many riders score over a col, that's the maximum number of points available. So:
HC: 10 points for 1st down to 1 point for 10th
Cat 1: 8 points for 1st down to 1 point for 8th
Cat 2: 6 points for 1st down to 1 point for 6th
Cat 3: 4 points for 1st down to 1 point for 4th
Cat 4: 3 points for 1st down to 1 point for 3rd
assuming they haven't changed the mountains scoring for 2011, which i don't think they have.
Sprints will be top 10: 10 points for first down to 1 point for 10th
So a fair amount of intermediate points available, good if you get a chap in the breakaway. especially if you pick the most combative rider

Previously in the mountains classification, any hors catégorie, first-category, or second-category climb awarded double points if it was the last of the day. In 2011, only the summit stage finishes will award double points, specifically stage 12 ending at Luz Ardiden, stage 14 at the Plateau de Beille, stage 18 at the Col du Galibier, and stage 19 at L'Alpe d'Huez.
Previously the first eight riders across a first-category climb scored points, as well as the first six across a second-category and the first four across a third-category. Now the first six across the line for any of these climbs will score points. For fourth-category climbs, only the first rider will score points.

Think thats only for flat stages unsure about intermediate and mountain stages
Ah, i didn't know it was for the 1st 15, that means if Cav is really going to push for the Green this year, break aways aint going to get down the road cause HTC will just close it as soon as it starts
So this could be a very boring tour until the mountains hit
yeh it defo wont be 20, as the HC cat climbs that had 15 points awarded in the giro equated to 6,5,4,3,2,1 points for the fantasy scores if i remember correctly.
However as its the first 15 that score points maybe dave will do it 15 down to 1 point?
As with other sprints/climbs it would been the first 3 for the sprint normally and for climbs up to 6 scoring depending on the category, however with this being 15 people scoring it does make it slightly more interesting as to how points will be awarded and potentially more potent to teams needing to pick riders that may be in a break away
Stage PC: Points awarded for points accrued in the points classification from the day's stage. Does not include stage finish points.
I would think it would be like the rest 5,4,3,2,1
For the top 5 riders scoring points on a stage excluding the finish
So if Cav to the intermediate sprint with Hushvod 2nd, then Pettachi, Swift and Farrar
The points would be
Cav 5
Hushvod 4
Pettachi 3
Swift 2
Farrar 1
But thats just how i see it, i'd wait for Dave to give you the answer
How does the game score then?
The game doesn't score like the TdF so there wont be 20 points in the game for intermediates
