Slightly off-topic, but would it be possible to put the direct forum link back in the game head links?
Thanks.
I hate having to type my password and username every time I go to the game, especially on iPad/iPhone.
Is it possible to set a cookie to remember that the user is logged in?
Had a thought, it's probably not a great one but I'll put it out there anyway:
Flexible credit limits...
How about we keep the 150 credit cap but you can go over it if you like? If you go over by 1 credit you get docked 1 points for the stage, if you go over by 20 you get docked 20 points etc, rounding up points so go over by 0.5 you get docked 1 pt, over by 2.1 you get docked 3.
It probably wouldn't change the game overly much but there's nothing worse than finding the guy you want is 0.2 credits more expensive that you can afford
It might also add some additional complexity as say for today's stage I might be able to shoehorn in Ferrari as well as Ventoso but I'd be overbudget by about 4 credits, Ferrari might get 4 points more than Modolo who I actually went for but he might not, it's a gamble just like the 20 point penalty for extra transfers is a gamble. Also with the heavy penalty going overbudget by a huge amount any stage would just become an even bigger gamble and I don't think anyone would really try it as a tactic.
Thats just trying to make the game easier....150 credits...its the same for everyone...
The 20 point penalty is a last chance saloon option...Its just not worth it....Giving people an easier penalty system would just mean more and more people getting similar scores....dont think there is anything wrong with the current set-up....There are always going to be rider value issues but thats part of the fun of it...
If there was a flexible credits system, It wouldn't work like that. Would need to be at least 5 points per 1 credit, because if i was to overspend to get the top guys in, likes of yesterday, we all know who the top few would be on the stage......So if i took them in and was 20 credits over and only lost 20 points, no problems as i would out score everyone.
Where as, if it was going to be 100 credits lost, i wouldn't
But i feel a level playing field for all is good, although i did like the up and down at the start of last year, because i ended up over 200 credits and could afford almost any team i wanted
I had a look and the best possible team for yesterday cost 156 credits netting you 261 points, only 21 more than the actual top score. Being docked 6 points would take it to 255 but there's risk involved as the likes of Uran could well have been really distanced, or Gadret could have gone on a flyer etc etc.
The best team possible at the minute will probably be along the lines of:
Hesjedal 27.4
Rodriguez 39.2
Scarponi 38.1
Basso 26.7
Cataldo 15.4
Brambilla 14.0
Tiralongo 11.6
Pozzovivo 9.8
Rabottini 6.6
Total of 188.8 credits
Is that really going to score you, on average, 39 points more per stage than a team on budget? And being docked nearly 40 points per stage is a huge risk if Scarponi cracks one day like he almost did yesterday or Tiralongo falls away. That team might get you 200 points a stage at the minute but if just one or two riders don't perform you're looking at 120 at most plus a 40 point deduction.
I'd like a historical table like the ones for transfers and points scored, that show my day to day position for each race, and the season long and now that we have it for the free competition and premium.
I've dived up and down hugely, it would be interesting.
Heh heh, I think I have been 2nd twice and nearly last once.
Graphs please!
I'd like to be able to view a line graph of my position through the major tours (maybe also be able to compare with another team, so I could have compared where me and robacairns were in relation to eachother through the Giro and where he managed to make up the 150 points to win it), also possibly my single stage positions to see if there's any trends and where I'm doing particularly badly. Likewise maybe a line graph of my score against the best score would be cool.
I know all of that information is accessible and I can drop it all into a spreadsheet for myself but I'm lazy
This might be a setting issue on your iphone/ipad as on my android phone it always remembers my password/username and keeps me logged in unless I clear my history/cache.
I don't know about easier, extra transfers at 20 points each doesn't make the game any easier and it's the same principal.
I would love an easier way to see how my riders just scored. Having to click back to the stage scores and search for my riders just seems clumsy. I think it would be super helpful to have more useful information when you click on riders, such as specific stage results, rather than just a trend line of scores. A trend line isn't super helpful when stages differ so drastically.
you know you can click on your score to see your team and their individual scores, right?
Mmm... I do now
I appreciate the comments about the rider values, just thought i would throw it in for discussion.
Removing the cap would be good so you can have 3 stars, or 5 stars or whatever, for some races (ToC, the classics) I had plenty of budget left and would have loved some cheap stars but the restriction makes the game interesting and I'd be happy for it to stay.
we won't be changing this for 2012 but we will be looking at it for next year
I'd like Geraint to actually sign up for the game.
He seems to know what he's talking about
My request is to be able to view all riders in a particular team and their cost/stats at the same time.
Would this help you out? It doesn't have any stats, Just a list of riders sorted by team with their value's
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2726269/Riders/riders.htm
This might end up being very longwinded for someone to sort but i think the credit ratings of some riders are a bit out between ds and specialist riders. Already mentioned i know.
for instance you have Sandy Casar (a ds) who is more expensive than some sprinters or km's.
perhaps a screen created towards the end of the season for people to put their opinions on riders value on might be helpfull for the powers that be to value the riders for next year.
Such as Ben Swift - classed as a sprinter but is much more expensive than the likes of Guardini or Kristoff who are both v good sprinters.
This keeps coming up and the problem is that for some races the likes of Swift and Appolonio will be the lead sprinter for Sky and will be worth 20-25 credits each whereas Casar will always be what he is, a breakaway specialist DS.
It's impossible to plan the rider values out from the start to fit every race, or even every stage of every race, if Swift had ridden the Giro he may have been the preferred sprinter on SKY for 1 or 2 stages and with an excellent lead out 18.4 credits would have been a steal. Likewise Basso who was in poor form is cheap at 28 and Gilbert who's been crap is expensive at 40, there's no way to predict how each rider will do or what role they'll play throughout the season at the start of January.
The key to the game has always been finding value, especially with DSs, and having had breakout seasons the likes of Guardini, Kristoff and Gavazzi will no doubt be stars and considerably more expensive next year. However new DSs will come up and replace them as great value sprinters/climbers.
Unless you're happy for rider values to be set per race there really isn't much that can be done about it.
I agree - the only fair way is to just pick which algorithm you're going to use and stick to it. I don't know how they decided the values for this season - but for next year presumably some kind of system that accounts for world ranking and points scored in the game for the previous 2 seasons (average points per day's racing or whatever). Some guys would come out a bit overpriced, and some would come out as bargains - depending on the race - thats just the fun of it.
I think its a fantastic game - the only thing I'd consider changing is how its decided which riders are DS and which are stars. Personally I'd prefer slightly less stars (eg max 6 per team) and the option of choosing either 3 or 4 in your team rather than the enforced 4, but maybe thats over-complicating things?
I'm too lazy to check if this has been asked for already but could we have a total number of participants in each league at the top of the page so I know just how mediocre my standing is? There are so many tied positions that just knowing I'm in 99,999th place doesn't tell me how bad that is.
that shouldn't be too taxing to add, i'll see what i can do
I think I've mentioned this before, or someone had suggested it before, but, I was wondering if you could add a column to the Stage scores pages. Right now they show your score that particular day for the stage run that day.
I was wondering if you could add a column that let you know your standing in the overall competition that day. For example I might have scored 106 points in yesterday's stage and, if we had it, the column next to it would tell me I was 46th in the overall competition that day.
Thanks!
the 'last stage played' league tells you where you came overall on any given stage
I like this idea!
Not to repeat myself, but, what about another column that says 'points behind' the overall current leader?...
How would another column work, if you're in say 4 leagues?
For points behind, I would just look under `User~Automatic Leagues' & pick League name to see where you are
Thanks Daave. Probably aint that bad in retrospect!! Just finished a tough week and was feeling sorry for myself and the lack of time to research riders and stages - hence the strop. Apologies to gkam and alan also and hey, I'm in the top half of the league so must be doing something right...
