I like you have a turbo, but it is a very artificial environment (fixed/static) but you can vary the resistance etc.. how about seeing if you could source an old set of rollers and set about with a bag of spanners and set up some Heath Robinson type of resistance on one of the rollers. This is what I am in thinking about doing myself.

Given the injury issues, do you want to be riding at the intensity associated with sufferfest or 3lc videos? I could see you working up to using them, and they are both well-regarded.
As for turbo or rollers, I think it's personal preference, but I wouldn't want to come a cropper off rollers with a dodgy hip.

It is coming along and I am able to do around 20 miles or so on the turbo without too much pain and around 10 on the road.
The videos was out of interest as I hope to build up to two endurance events for next year. Same with the rollers. At the moment I have a turbo trainer and happy with that. Rollers do look like they could cause some damage if things go wrong.
