I'd hesitate to call Carlton Kirby a commentator. He's more the bloke that Eurosport call when no-one else is available (for any sport). Still, at least Liggett and Sherwen weren't available for this Vuelta. We have to be thankful for that.
Brian Smith of course also general manager of Endura Racing.
Rode alongside some Texan bloke at Motorola in 1994, too
There are worse commentators. eg: Carlton Kirby
The coverage has been good, the pre race and post race analysis has been good, everything has been good, except I don't think Anthony McCrossen is a good commentator.
I for one think the coverage has been good
Yeah, when I get paid to commentate on it, I will.
hows your version coming along @Cooks? i get to catch the coverage on eurosport and itv4.
people need to realise we are lucky to have the coverage at all.
everyones an armchair expert and can do a better job it seems.
i personally find the coverage perfectly acceptable its not going to win an oscar but take what you can get.
Anthony McCrossan has a very annoying voice is a pretty useless commentator. Brian Smith is knowledgeable but not a natural broadcaster.
Roger Hammond, on the other hand, is excellent: intelligent, articulate and insightful. Dodgy shirts though.
AM doesn't have a very exciting tone to his voice which means even the most exciting events in the race he makes sound uninteresting. Shame.
I watched yesterday's stage on ITV player. I like Ant. He's got knowledge, I just don't like ITV

The Scottish fella you are talking about is Brian Smith the former national road race champion 91 and 94
He is a regular guy on Eurosport's coverage. I think he's a great commentator

Are Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen not available? Do they get 49 weeks off a year?
Doesn't really bother me, the picture quality is much better than the Eurosports stream I "acquire" via my Apple TV box ..
Have to say though, at times when listening, it feels kinda strange to have Frankie Boyle commentating ..
I think it would be great to have ITV4 cover all three Grand Tours and TOB, I have emailed them in the past regarding this ...
All in all though, this years VUELTA has been very enjoyable, I've found it a little dull in the past TBH, much preferring the GIRO, but 2012 has been all good.
They are very annoying, have they stopped pronouncing movistar "movie-star" yet?
you give it a crack for the next stage, record it, put it on youtube and i will give it a watch and let you know what i think.
