Giro stage seven

Thoughts on the day's picks?

I was a bit overburdened with sprinters, so have taken a ten point hit to bring in Nibs, Uran and Visconti. The big news for stage will be bringing in Brad plus a.n. other cheapish tt-er (or a versatile chap like Betancur?).

Suspect Paolini and Katusha may give it one last push to keep the pink before he well-and-truly loses it after the time trial.

In my humble [Editor's comment: EXPERT!] opinion Cav and Bouhanni will not feature in the next few days and so I would be looking to bring in GC contenders who can TT and climb....;)

Dario Cataldo will be riding virtually past his house today.

Anything could happen today, early break could even stay away, or a late attack by not-quite-gc guys might be let go, or the gc guys could really animate things and blow it open, or a group of 50 could be sprinting for it. Easy game...

Im confused, Ive brought in Ryder for Cav, but don't know what to do without messing up my team for tomorrow 39 I may just leave Viviani in for the fact he may get some points from the points comp, I also think I will leave in Ventoso and Visconti in case as im not good at chasing the break etc

Its a tough call as its a really long ITT with a pretty decent climb at the end,so it will not suit all TT specialists. Some climbing allrounders should do well on the course....

Best thing to do is research riders on procyclingstats...There is an option on the site to see how individual riders perform in Time Trials...Look at this and work out who seems to go well in longer Time Trials.....But even then those unpredictable buggers have to have the legs and the desire on the day... 3

the course is quite long, and word is it's pretty technical in places. the climb at the end isn't long but if you've binned yourself then you could still lose a chunk of time on it.

my feeling is it'll still favour the true TTers over the all-rounders, in spite of the climb. probably i'll get found out though 1

Same here Dave, a sort of transitional stage... 1

I've gone for a couple of guys that like a day on the bumpy stuff but can also hold their own in the ITT tomorrow. tbh though it's a finger-in-the-breeze kind of a stage for me 4

Ah Dr man, you've done it now ! Used my last pick on Visconti - going to have to wait till the last minute and possibly take a 10 pointer.

Oh, and a heads up, Visconti was in a crash yesterday and ended up in hospital as a precaution. As far as I know it's nothing serious but that might make him less likely to get in the break today.

It could be either an interesting stage or a boring one, it all depends on how much Hesjedal and Nibali want to make Wiggins suffer before tomorrow.

If Hesjedal has his eyes on some more bonus time then maybe he rides the stage hard and puts Wiggins into difficulty picking up a few seconds plus some finish line bonus seconds. Just as likely though is that Hesjedal rides hard, can't drop Wiggins and then loses a minute tomorrow....

I've made 5 changes taking 30 penalty points in order to chase the break, it could go horribly wrong but I'm far enough behind in the overall now that I don't have a real chance of winning.

Yep...Three crucial days now....Would not be surprised to see the weaker TT guys in the GC stakes having a little play today...Nibali and Santambrogio might just light it up a little just to stop Wiggo and Hesjedal having a quiet day in preparation for tomorrow...
May see Sanchez have a little dig today....
So much speculation today... 1

Lush stage today, some big shake ups if the gc boys want to play.
