Yeah, pretty much Pirazzi and Di Luca vs Majka and Pantano.

Will be interesting to see how it works out and how long Majka can keep featuring in the GC group but ever since you posted your team in the other thread I've been kicking myself for missing Pirazzi, I think he's going to go bonkers one day to secure the mountains jersey and you'll leave me for dead.

Daniel Friebe tweeted (semi-seriously, I think) that Di Luca could threatan for the overall.

Not convinced...

Couple of decent ish scores but I'm annoyed Pellizotti didn't do better and Di Luca got dropped fairly early on the last climb.

Will probably get a decent score but drop some places because I reckon lots of people will have called this better than I did.

I did better on standard thanks to Betancur, but thats an excellent purist result you have there!

Same. I was going to bring in Majka but bottled it.

Pellizotti caught. The real battle going to start soon. Fancy Betancur to win it as he's a bit further back on GC.

Sanchez has caught the pink group. Hesjedal has not.

Pellizotti caught by the pink group, not sure if that was because he was knackered or just waiting to attack again but that group is 2 mins behind the leaders so we're unlikely to get a breakaway winner.

Pellizotti back in the group now, and just saw Atapuma...

Weening was in there about 3km from the top of the climb, not sure if he hung on tho'. Can't recall seeing any Columbia jerseys...

It's going to be tough to stay away but who knows? I'm not sure if Atapuma and Weening are in the main group and they are my wild cards but I can't see them. Otherwise our teams are quite similar.

Pellizotti has caught Viviani and Dekker on the descent which should help him on the flat section. Can't help thinking he'll be swallowed up once the GC battle begins on the final climb tho...

Here comes Nibali!

I thought Astana were being a bit rash driving the pace and it's backfired big time, they've been blown apart as soon as Sky hit the front and are really being shown up.

Wiggins to take big time out of Niabli today?

would love Pellizotti to win!

Looks like Pellizotti has designs on the stage today, he's just attacked with his teammate Rosa, and his other teammate Rodriguez is out front. Hesjedal seems miles behind already...

Break only has 5:23 at the minute, the peloton isn't letting this one go away too far which is odd as I thought Astana would want to try and lose the jersey today and lighten Nibali's load. Instead they seem intent on keeping this on a short leash and wearing themselves out.

Wish I'd put Wiggins back in now, got an awful feeling that Astana have bitten off more than they can chew today (cue Nibali winning the stage by a minute).

Got rid of Dekker from my standard but still got him in my purist so hopefully will score some for my purist.

Millar & Dekker in the break. Maybe Hesjedal will try and bridge across later.

I transferred Dekker out last night, so I hope he doesn't score any points today.

Didn't pick anyone for the break, so glad to see none of the more popular guys (Rubiano, Rabottini etc) have made it in there. I suspect they will be waiting until later in the tour - today should be very much a GC day.

OK, I have axed SKY riders...ie Wiggo.
Can't see SKY winnng it today...its too soon...they'll make sure they don't lose time to other contenders and follow Nibali in...I hope.

Cadel Evans (BMC)
Stefano Pirazzi (BVI)
Enrico Battaglin (BVI)
Robert Gesink (BLA)
Vicenzo Nibali (AST)
Mauro Santambrogio (VIN)
Rafal Majka (SAX)
Carlos Alberto Betancur (ALM)
Danilo Di Luca (VIN)

Many teams look very similar don't they?

For me just these different

Niemiec instead of Gesink.
Kelderman instead of Majka
Chalaput instead of Di Luca

Annoyed as I started with Majka and intended to run him for the whole game but he gave way for a sprinter and never got back in.

Where now though those two flat stages are tempting to take penalties for but how many?

Break of 13 away:

Quote:

Daniele Bennati (Team Saxo-Tinkoff)
Kenny Dehaes (Lotto Belisol)
Elia Viviani (Cannondale Pro Cycling)
Tiago Machado (RadioShack Leopard)
Yaroslav Popovych (RadioShack Leopard)
David Millar & Thomas Dekker (Garmin-Sharp)
Maarten Tjallingii (Blanco Pro Cycling Team)
Jackson Rodriguez (Androni Giocattoli)
Serge Pauwels (Omega Pharma-Quick Step)
Oscar Gatto (Vini Fantini-Selle Italia)
Pim Ligthart (Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team)
Pavel Brutt (Katusha)

Looks like a few sprinters in there for no particular reason although I suspect Viviani wants some sprint points (he seems to be targetting the points jersey).

I assume from the fact that there are two Garmin riders in there that Hesjedal is going to try and go on a flyer because Dekker/Millar are not the riders you put in a break today if you're targetting the stage win.

I have no standard team as I'm all purist but if I had one I'd choose
Nibali, Hesjedal, Scarponi, Kiserlovski , Santambrogio and Pellizotti (plus maybe Atapuma, Chalapud and Di Luca)
for today.

Evans
Nibali
Santambrogio
Betancur
Rabottini (get in the break please Matteo)
Pirazzi
Chalapud
Gavazzi
Dehaes

Michele Scarponi (LAM)( for cadel)
Stefano Pirazzi (BVI)
Vicenzo Nibali (AST)
Carlos Alberto Betancur (ALM)
Domenico Pozzovivo (ALM) ( for visconti)
Mauro Santambrogio (VIN)
Danilo Di Luca (VIN)
Franco Pellizotti (AND) ( for battaglin)
Przemyslaw Niemiec (LAM)

Gambled a bit there, removing evans for scarponi may well backfire, he's been looking so strong. also if visconti goes on the break/mountain jersey, that will be costly- but i get 2 extra good italian options for today, got to have a go I'm so far behind!
