Bike components delays

Hi all, fairly new to riding which makes this even more frustrating. I ordered a new road bike back in beginning of October and I'm still waiting for it. I won't mention names (bike brand) at this stage as it's not my style. I'm being told there's shipping/manufacturing delays with getting the shimano parts, that's all I'm apparently awaiting for for build to be completed, burn delays are due to various reasons i.e COVID/brexit etc.

im just trying to find out if anybody else is going through the same issues at all. 5 months just seems quite frankle unreal 2

is there an industry wide known issue, is it quite as bad as they say, or am I potentially being put on the back burner as I bought my cycle to work scheme as opposed to cash? 2

thanks

Ruby

Mate, my sympathies, I unfortunately broke my Ultimate Commuter back in August.  Surly Ogre, a steel frame that was meant to get me to retirement.  It would seem that a weld went at non drive chainstay at the rear dropout.  I wasn't riding hard, easy going bridleway.  Luckily I still had 10 days left on the warrenty.  I had only been riding it for almost a year and a half, my fault for not treating the inside of the frame quick enough and for odd choices on the Rohloff.

I was initially told November, when that came and went there was No expected date.  It meant I had to spend hundreds bringing back my Getting to Work Bike ready for the expected upcoming filthy winter.  She had been retired, the frame will be 30 this year.  I am now coming up with difficulties obtaining weird parts from the European mega sites that were easy last year.

World Wide Bike Boom.  The pandemic has made people want bicycles.  Allied to that problems shipping from the far east.  And various factory lockdowns.  Went to Halfords yesterday, needed some reflective Slap Wraps, they actually had a few bikes for sale,  My LBS mechanics were still rushed off their feet over my Crimbo hols, and they have been since March.

Good Luck.

Yep, there's a worldwide shortage of Shimano parts due to Covid, plenty of big manufacturers are only promising delivery of bikes this summer even if they're ordered today. I doubt they're discriminating against you for using Cycle to Work.

What I would say though is that at least they're being up front about it, Evans Cycles are still happy to take orders despite not knowing when the bikes will arrive. Typical scummy Mike Ashley behaviour, there's a good explanation on this thread:
