Man's 'moment of madness' as he drives straight into path of train at level crossing

Dalat Gulzar, 51, ignored signs and flashing light at Llanbedr railway station, in Gwynedd, before narrowly missing a collision with a train

In mitigation, Nathan Goldstein said his client was a "hard working family man" who had experienced a "moment of absolute madness" which will have a profound effect upon his life. He said the defendant, who accepted his guilt following the verdict, would suffer as a result of a driving ban and would possibly have to close his business if he were not able to properly serve his customers.

Apparently, this 'could result in serious repercussions, including drivers not knowing what the speed limit is and increasing the risk of dangerous driving'...at 20 m.p.h.?!

Cornish town overrun by 'nightmare' tourists and 'horrendous' traffic

Tourist season can reportedly leave locals trapped and unable to move their cars (According to A1 Cars' Andrew Ward - silly season is upon us and it's this sort of nonsense Reach want us to protect against the ravening BBC)

Enjoy too the Tripadvisor comments on cold seawater at St Ives.  The one and two star ratings of any venue are always good sport.

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/mum-faces-abuse-parking-busy-8589080

Quote:

A mum has faced abuse for having to park on a busy A-road after double yellow lines were painted over her usual parking spot. Laura Murray, who lives in Keynsham with her son, originally used the on-street parking on Pixash Lane which was removed in February as part of work to accommodate the new Keynsham Recycling Hub.

Now she has been forced to leave her car parked on the busy A4 Bath Road in order to park near her house, but has faced abuse from other drivers. Ms Murray said: “It’s been an absolute nightmare.”

She said: “That’s the only legal place I can park because anywhere else is double yellows. They won’t let me park on the land outside my house because it's not a dropped kerb and apparently it's too close to the junction.”

Anger erupts over new parking charges at Devon beauty spot

The charity which runs the car park has said that the money collected will go towards conserving Torbay's biodiversity and that their members go free

"Some commenters even said they would cover the automatic number plate recognition camera with a plastic bag or their own number plates to avoid the charge. Others even hinted at vandalism."

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/volatile-motorist-downs-drove-towards-8588935?int_source=nba

Quote:

The email said: “We use a secluded ‘classroom’ area surrounded mostly by bushes and trees so we are removed from the main body of the Downs. Yesterday, a car began to drive into the classroom area while 29 five and six year olds were seated on the ground.”

Two volunteers immediately approached the driver and asked him to back away, which he did, but then he parked on the trail which was about to be used by the children. The email said: “They asked him to move again and he refused and was very rude to them.”

The volunteers remained calm in order to defuse the situation, according to the email. It added that the children had been placed in 'an extremely vulnerable position with a volatile person at the wheel of the car illegally on the Downs'.

Cornwall Council car parking controversy continues as Callington traders say new £1 charge is 'nail in the coffin'

Well, Cornwall, here's the thing about this - you've got what leastways, at national level you voted for, you have returned 6 out of 6 Conservative MPs since 2015 and a majority (of those of who voted) opted for Brexit: i.e. a vote to be poorer yourself, your job likely to be less secure, less prospects generally and for there to be less money in the economy.

With Brexit, you voted for inflation and higher interest rates (after many years of abnormally low IR) so many things costing more, and you have both.  Didn't you used to have a big fishing industry? Putin added the energy crisis for good measure.

Anyway, you have voted for the local council to receive less from the centre  - so Council Tax went up and now a whole lot more income has to come from service charges levied on you, such as for parking.

To get into the specifics, and it's the same all over England of course, Cornwall Council raised just over £1.2bn revenue in 2017/18 and this has only slightly increased for 2022/23.

But the make-up has changed: in 2017/18 fees & charges income was £225m and nearly half the total was from the Government: £544m. In 2022/23, just over half was from fees and services - £622m, and £86m from government.

Finally, let's cross to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire the largest place I know of where town centre off-street parking is free (although its days are probably numbered now). Do we hear the sound of happy traders, of a retail boom town? Well not exactly...

How is Wellingborough town centre faring? We take a closer look at shop openings, closures and what the future holds

The town has changed significantly over the years, and in 2023 we took to the streets to analyse what it does well and what it needs to do better

Land Rover driver finds rude note on windscreen but his reaction is priceless

Adam Chester found two messages on his Land Rover in Harborne

Far from being angry, Mr Chester, who describes himself as environmentally conscious, said he understood the mystery fly-poster's view and was grateful no damage was done. The 46-year-old said: "I'm all for people having an opinion and being allowed to protest.

"The oceans are rising, climate change is worrying, we have to be aware but it needs to go higher up the chain. Is the government doing enough ?"

Devon village parking row as furious locals revolt against charges

Council leader Martin Wrigley (Lib Dem, Dawlish North East) said the council would meet the residents to work out a solution.

“I don’t think there is any quick fix to this, but we need something better,” he said.

“We Liberal Democrats were elected on the promise of a community-powered council, and what has happened here is certainly not what a community-powered council does.

“Kingskerswell is not alone. This might apply to village car parks across the patch.”

Must be a slow news day, if "private parking company issues dubious parking charge" is worthy of a story.

This story has so much going on! Man angry he can't walk directly to his favourite parking spot because of a fence the council put up... because his wife fell while walking there!

That is impressive.

I looked up the area, it looks like there used to be little posts on the edge of the grass (I can't think why they would need needed.....) But they probably rotted and were removed leaving some holes, which is what the lady then tripped on, leading to the fence being installed.

Also, looking at the distance to either end of the fence, it doesn't look like it would use much more energy than the energy they're currently expending climbing over the fence.

One of their neighbours (or they) have complained to Google to get a house blurred, but now we can look at it in the newspaper photos, which seems to defeat the purpose of having it blurred

The driver of the Maserati failed to see the marked #RPU car in the rear view as it was followed at 125mph

Should have come to Lancashire! I have a photo of a Maserati with no MOT somewhere in the 2022 lists, but I can't find it without a lot of effort- a weakness in the filing system. It's set up for finding other appearances of the reg. and not for the vehicle type. Sometimes, I can remember them by key facts: this one with the non-existent plate is run by Hooray Henry outfit The Cannon Run

You should see it where I am in the USA. Warnings not to leave your cars unlocked as teens wander through at night checking door handles. One lady posted that two guns were stolen out of her husband's truck! I'm not joking.

I take it that the Police will be heavy handed in their usual way and arrest everyone who steps into the road to distrupt the God that is motor traffic. Afterall, the law is the same for us all.... or is it only relevant if the Polices paymasters don't like the reason behind the demonstration?
