Pinarello introduces Gan and Gan Disc road bikes, like the Dogma F8 but more affordable

Pinarello has trickled the design of its Dogma F8, the Italian company’s first aero road bike introduced last summer, into the new Gan, a range of three road bikes that use pretty much the same frame styling, but employ different grades of carbon fibre to lower the cost of ownership.

The new Gan model is available in three guises; Gan, Gan S and Gan RS. Each frame shares tube profiles and shapes with the Dogma F8, but it’s the changes in the carbon fibre layup that makes owning one more more affordable. With no UK prices confirmed yet, it’s not clear how much cheaper the Gan will be than the Dogma F8’s £4,000 price tag but complete bikes starting at about £2.5k would be a good guess.

The Gan is made from T600 carbon fibre, the Gan S uses T700 carbon, and the Gan RS employs T900 carbon. For reference, the Dogma F8 uses a ‘new T11001K Dream Carbon with Nanoalloy Technology’ from Toray. Pinarello says the lower grade of carbon fibre used across the Gan range means the frames are less rigid and we’ll presume they’ll be a bit heavier than the F8’s claimed 940g.

The new Gan shares the same features as first introduced on the Dogma F8, including its Flatback technology, which comprises oval tubes with a flattened back side, and applied to the fork and frame. The rear brake is sheltered from the airflow by the wishbone seatstays and there's an integrated seat clamp and aero post. The rear stays are also asymmetric but not as much as the Dogma F8, it’s been softened essentially. Pinarello claims its asymmetric stay design makes the bike more balanced.

Each frame is UCI approved and is available in 10 sizes from 44 to 59.5cm and available in five colours. It looks like Pinarello, judging by its website, will offer a range of complete builds. We'll get more details on the specifications and prices soon.

Following the news of the Dogma F8 Disc last week, Pinarello has also unleashed the new Gan Disc. Like the regular Gan, the new Gan Disc takes styling cues from the F8 Disc but uses T600 carbon fibre to reduce the price with a small weight and stiffness penalty.
