Entries open for Liverpool-Chester bike ride

Entries for a cycle ride from Liverpool to Chester and back are now being taken.

The aptly-named Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool Bike Ride takes place on Sunday, July 18 and starts at Old Haymarket, close to the Birkenhead Tunnel.

This year, there are four rides; a challenge ride of 54 miles (Liverpool – Chester – Liverpool), a community ride of 30 miles (Liverpool – Chester), a family ride of 25 miles (Liverpool – Thornton – Liverpool) and a sportive route of around 90 miles.

Director of event organisers Pennine Events Mark Sandamas said: “Over 2,200 cyclists took to Liverpool’s roads during last year’s ride and we are hoping that even more people will feel inspired to get on their bikes and take part this year.

“Cycling is a fantastic way for people to have fun and get active and this event really does have something to suit all ages and abilities.

“Whether you’re a serious cyclist, or a complete novice, I’d encourage you to get on your bike this summer.”

Riders get exclusive use of the Queensway tunnel - you need to be back by 3PM though when it re-opens – and because of the tunnel the Liverpool Chester also offers the unique pleasure of being underground for four miles of its route.
