The funeral of Chris Hutt, the man described as Bristol's cycling champion and whose death we announced last month, is due to be held at Canford Crematorium on Friday April 30th at 1pm followed by a wake at 35 King St at 2pm.
According to the website Bristol 24-7 Bristol Cycling Campaign are planning a memorial bike ride after the wake to celebrate Chris’s life and achievements, taking in the Bristol-Bath bike path.
Mourners are welcome to the funeral, the wake or both and asked to contact Chris's son, Chris Jnr.
Chris Hutt, who was 59 and worked as a plumber, was well known throughout the city and spent 30 years actively campaigning for better cycling facilities. He was intrumental in the design of the Bath-Bristol cycling path. He was found dead at his flat in Clifton and was thought to have been suffering from a heart problem.
Although he described himself as a "grumpy old man", John Grimshaw, founder of the Bristol-based charity Sustrans, said, “I have lost a colleague of so many years, the best of route devisers and cycling companion, and a friend indeed.
“Without his support I doubt that key cycle routes we now take for granted would have been built so well, or even at all.
“His last two messages concerned the ongoing threat to the railway path and the beautiful River Avon route to Hanham. Might you consider as a fitting tribute to this so dedicated Bristol citizen, declaring the railway path inviolate and rebuilding the riverside path to a standard he would have enjoyed?”
I came off my bike just before Christmas and broke my femur. The care was excellent and I'm back on the bike, albeit with more rehab to be done.
Untitled, or entitled? I bet it speeds down towpaths and weaves in and out of boats, and it's definitely not wearing a helmet or hi vis.
Are these actually 'hi-viz' - or just brights?...
That one was completely different though, it was a driver not a car as in the other 3. So 1 in 4 of the stories manage to follow reporting guidelines.

Still here, just showing a few signs of wear and tear. Hopefully still serviceable for some years to come.
How can you know that you are "equally fearful" as "any female cyclist"? There is no possible way of quantifying such emotions and female cyclists...
I think it would be fairer to blame the moon - as in "my client is a loony".
Nice idea but Gloucestershire Constabulary are not interested as exemplified by this prvious NMOTD. Not only was there NFA for the close pass in...
