So long as the bike shop declared everything properly when they took out the policy then the insurance company will have to pay out.
But given that this has happened, it seems reasonable that they can ask for additional security for them to be able to renew the policy.
If your house gets burgled and you don't have an alarm, you can bet that renewal at the same amount will only happen if you then fit an alarm.
I see we've got plenty of comments on here with little understanding, empathy or sympathy. When I got into cycling some of the major attractions were that cyclists were by and large understanding, sympathetic and empathetic.
I wonder how many people commenting here know the business involved or know the nature of the business?
I also wonder how many know the business was quite devastated by the floods just a year earlier?
It genuinely makes me sad to see the negative attitudes that have grown over recent years.
I am a bit confused, surely even if the bikes are returned the insurance company will want increased security? The bikes being returned and lack of security (now published countrywide) are seperate issues.
Him? She's a woman.
A drunken 6-year-old, surely not? Product of a broken home I expect, happens round here too. Well, not quite round here but certainly on the other side of the tracks. Standards are falling in this country, mark my words; we are going to hell in a handcart.
We're already in hell, it's just that not all of us have realised it yet.
When I'm in my cups, I fantasise that this is all like in Jacobs Ladder: I died thirty years ago and everything since has actually been a hallucination in the last moments before my heart stops. Like I said: only when I've had a lot to drink...
yes but no longer if no measures, thats the point, if you run a business you have to pay the costs surely ? It gets bloody difficult but we all bear costs of insurance, my household is enough because of the bikes I have !
I've got no idea what you're banging on about. An independent bike store was burgled - he's asking for help to find the stolen bikes and/or perpetrators. Road.cc has a large readership of cyclists who may be able to help so they kindly published the article. The shop owner had insurance but that's not what this is about. I suspect you're drunk? Or 6 years old?
ignore the haters and big luck to the future. if you are nice to your customers , they will ssupport you in the rebuild
Also, outlaying the extra security expenses on the premises is problematic as Toby rents the building on a month to month basis.
He had insurance. Now he has been burgled his insurance company is demanding costly security measures in order to continue insuring him. Things like state of the art alarm systems, steel shutters etc are crazy expensive. Keep up.
so as we all pay into insurance are you saying the ompanies should make an exception ? Sorry but thats life and what do you suggest insurance companies make an exception and he gets burgled time and time again because security is not good enough ?
I was suggesting you read the article properly as you were wrong - he had insurance.
Jesus you idiot, show some sympathy. A man's livelihood is in jeopordy and all you can do is sit on your arse complaining about something that hasn't even happened?
Have a ride and a smile and shut the fuck up.

due to insurers demanding increased security measures at his expense
S#@t so the rest of the public has to pay for his security, never nice to be burgled but his own fault he never had insurance, sorry thats harsh but thats reality.
