Video: Nibali team-mate Javier Moreno thrown off Giro d'Italia after push on Sky rider Diego Rosa

Defending champion loses key domestique Javier Moreno after incident on today's Etna stage...

Defending Giro d'Italia champion Vincenzo Nibali will be without one of his key support riders in the mountains during the rest of this year's race after Javier Moreno was filmed pulling back Team Sky's Diego Rosa ahead of the climb of Mount Etna that concluded today's fourth stage of the race.

However, other footage suggests that both riders were to blame for the confrontation, flicking elbows at each other as members of Team Sky passed on the left-hand side of the Bahrain-Merida team riding in support of Nibali - keep an eye on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen in the video here.

It was Moreno who was disqualified from the race for "acts of violence" however, as well as being handed a fine of 200 Swiss Francs, with Team Sunweb's Chad Haga tweeting that he had needed to dodge Rosa as the Team Sky man crashed as a result of the incident.

What an idiotic comment, crashing under any circumstances can be very serious. Ask Rohan Dennis...

if he did start it all hopefully Sky's DS will have a big enough pair to censure him properly. Oh hang on was that a pig flying by?

Stupid of Moreno, if only he'd stuck to racial abuse he'd still be in the race

Pushing a rider in those circumstances brings with it the possibility of causing a crash and serious injury.

What is it in your stunted left-wing brain that makes you think that verbally abusing someone has a similar potential to cause physical harm?

Sticks and stones ...

I was more getting at the point that Team Sky seem to get away with a lot more than anyone else. In this case both riders (or neither) should have been chucked.
Not sure what you're on about with assigning my brain to some kind of political spectrum, but yes I do happen to believe racism is bad. I'm sorry that you seem upset about something and hope that whatever is going on in your life gets sorted out.

So Rosa started it and Moreno finished it... violently (intentional or not). Bet Rosa won't be so quick to check another rider again.

I maybe too jaded, but Rosa just gained a marginal advantage over a major rival team to his own...

Why wouldn't he do it again?

Do what again? Get himself slammed into the crowd? Not sure that's a sustainable tactic, even if he is a WUM.

From Jamminatrix's post - "Bet Rosa won't be so quick to check another rider again."

Is it a good exchange? Jabbing a chief rival's key climing domestique on your way past, in turn provoking him to stupidly push you off your bike, with the result he is DQ'd and you get a bit of road rash?

Hell, if Rosa had timed it better, he could have had a cushioned his landing on an inattentive glamour model at the side of the road? 3

Bonkers pushing the rider into the spectators! If I was one of them you'd be sued. Someone could have been seriously hurt. Good to hear he has been binned from the race. Now need the team to get tough and demote the rider too
