ctc logo 09.jpg10,000 cyclists descend on York for 67th annual Cycle Show
CTC has said that good weather in over the weekend helped attract 10,000 visitors to the 67th York Cycle Show, which brought Team Green Britain Bike Week to a close at York Racecourse.
Yesterday saw a cycle parade through the streets of the historic city following a special service for cyclists at York Minster, while the racecourse played host to a range of bicycle themed attractions over the weekend, with an added feature being the arrival of a prototype Olympic torch on Saturday, reports the York Press.
Paul Hepworth, chairman of the show’s committee, said: “This is the first time for several years we have had fine weather throughout the event and it really helped draw people out of their homes to the event.
“It was a spectacular turnout with about 10,000 people in total for the two days.
“The show is one of the biggest national events for cyclists and since it started in 1945 it has encouraged thousands to pedal for pleasure.
“Again this year everyone seemed to be having a great time, including the children who took part in cycling competitive events, and the service at York Minster was very well attended.
“We hope to see the same success in 2012,” he concluded.
