iPhone app launched for 2012 UCI Road World Championships in The Netherlands

The organisers of the 2012 UCI Road World Championships in Limburg have released an iPhone application that allows users to keep up to date with news surrounding the event, which takes place between 15 and 23 September next year.

The app aims to provide a range of cycling news, photos, videos and information about the course that riders will race over for the coveted rainbow jersey as well as a ‘Fan Wall’ where users can upload their own photos and messages.

Closer to the championships, it will include information on the countries competing and their teams, as well as the history of the World Championships and race results.

It’s also hoped that for the event itself, the app will be able to provide live tracking of riders and live footage of the races.

Developed by the Foundation UCI Road World Championships Limburg 2012 in partnership with Nxtmix Vermeulen and Brand Design, the app costs 69p for users in the UK and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store.

Organisers told road.cc that they would "probably in the near future" develop apps for Android and BlackBerry devices, although that isn't 100 per cent guaranteed and will depend on the success of the iPhone version.
