A Just Eat food delivery rider has been stabbed in the back in Birmingham during an attempted bikejacking.
The unnamed rider, who is said to be a male aged in his thirties, was approached by four youths on Sidcup Road in Kingstanding at around 6pm on the evening of Wednesday 2 March, reports Birmingham Live.
After he was stabbed, the cyclist collapsed to the ground, and told local residents, “I’ve been stabbed, I think I’m going to die.”
He was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital for further treatment. He is now reported to be in a stable condition, with his injuries no longer life-threatening.
Meanwhile, his assailants were said to have fled the scene on two motorbikes.
To date, no arrests have been made, with West Midlands Police, who have been studying CCTV footage and interviewing people living locally, saying: “We’re following up some lines of enquiry, but no arrests at this stage.”
West Midlands Police said the victim's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening as it revealed he was now in a stable condition.
Earlier, Detective Sergeant Curt Wilkins, of Force CID, had said: “We’re at the early stages of our enquiries and work is on-going to identify the offenders. We’d ask anyone who was in the area at the time and has dashcam footage to get in contact with us.
"And any witnesses who may have information and haven’t yet spoken with officers should also get in touch. Contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk, quoting investigation 20/266627/22, or call 101. Or to remain 100 per cent anonymous, and pass on information without giving your details, speak to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

I knew, in my heart of hearts, that this would have been in Birmingham. Absolutely zero surprises there. Glad that the Just Eat worker is okay but are they going to feel safe carrying on after this? I doubt it.
As I clicked on the headline I was thinking "please don't be Birmingham, please don't be Birmingham". . . . . . Doh!
This is why I take my life in my hands everyday using the road to get to work when there's a perfectly good canal 5 minutes from my house that goes right past my work.
At least West Midlands Police actually seem to take bad driving & close passes seriously. Well, they do in my communications with them when I've submitted reports, although they rarely get back to me with outcomes & I've yet to be called to court as a witness so who knows?
I do a bit of riding for Deliveroo and I do always worry about being attacked for my bike. You can end up in some bizarre locations such as industrial parks and dark back allies. Not had trouble yet but always a worry.
This is the sort of thing that would convince me to put a GPS tracker on my bike. Hope they catch, convict and deal with the perpetrators.
I just wish there were decent ones you could drop into the frame somewhere
I'd be wary of any that claim to work hidden within the frame. The GPS signal is unlikely to penetrate the frame - it struggles even to get through dense foliage - and the communication signal is unlikely to do any better on the way out.
In a scenario such as this, I doubt the perpetrators will be pausing to give your bike the once-over. Chances are they will get it home before they notice anything untoward, and that final location is all you need. Ideally whatever device you use will come with some kind of app that allows you to send a link to the police for them to follow the location in real time. Hopefully even the most indolent and institutionally anti-cyclist force will be swayed by the prospect of a near certain uptick for their clear-up stats.
Seesense have something in the pipeline, no idea if it's any good.
