Getting a bike fit is important if you want to maximise your performance and comfort on the bike, and it’s not just for racing cyclists either, every level of cyclist can benefit. In the above video I chatted to Jake Yarranton from Precise Performance about the bike fitting and he outlined why it should be a consideration if you want get the most performance out of your cycling and to minimise the risk of discomfort and injury.

“It’s probably one of the most important things when you’re riding a bike. You avoid injury, and also the enhancement of comfort and efficiency is huge,” explains Jake. “It’s for everyone, amateur to racing cyclists, everyone will feel those benefits.”
It’s also something you should get done regularly as well. “Every year should be a good aim, but obviously that isn’t always realistic for some people. Your fitness levels might improve, or decrease in some occasions. Or you may have suffered an injury, or your generally your targets change as well so you have to reassess what that position likes like,” he adds.
Jake also put me through a regular bike fit which was interesting - it’s been a few years since I last had a bike fit so I was intrigued to see if my fit requirements had changed much. I ride a lot of different bikes so ensuring each one fits me correctly is a key requirement so having an up to date set of fit numbers is a good thing. I’ve also had a niggling back problem since a disc issue last summer post-Eurobike so was keen to really dial in my riding position before spring and summer arrive.
