Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/18649201.car-crash-wall-iceland-s...

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

It was on the pavement, like I definitely see happening 4 or 5 times a day.

PS I. guess they've found a way safely to operate without the use of that fire escape?

Aha! *That* is the real reason that being able to accelerate is a "safety feature"! "In the event of fire, break glass (windscreen) and accelerate out of danger..."

"Accelerate out of danger" - one of my fave phrases - a bit like saying "stuff we import will get cheaper if we make it harder to import it."

I hope the driver is okay - did they find them in a korma?

it's possible the driver suffered a medical episode before the crash. Dodgy tikka.

UPDATE!! Some poor young man has been arrested due to this car taking a tumble.  The good news is he was released on unconditional bail.

Hope he gets a courtesy vehicle while they're working out how to extract the other one.  Assuming it was his car of course...

Bloody steam engines - they come out of nowhere, you don't notice they're there, and then with all that mass they can do serious damage.  It's about time they were replaced with vans / diesel tractors / Dodge Rams!

No doubt, being Bath, the charges will relate to damaging a UNESCO site and nothing to do with motor offences.

Well, the elderly blind dog sadly had to be put to sleep, the fridge is wrecked, but the longbow is intact.

That is a 'special one'. Literally no mention of bad driving or the driver in the whole article.. I think it's been written so we can all feel sorry for the occupants, one of which needed rescuing, but the other climbed out himself..  Those poor young males, they had no chance against the might of those big wide lanes curb and railings.. it must have been because the hotel had no hi-viz on.. or maybe a cyclist pushed them down there.

Villagers call for action to stop HGVs crashing into their homes

Fed up Bill Frappell, 79, who has lived in his cottage since 1994 said his home was hit by vehicles three times in the eight weeks before Christmas. “I’ve had to fix broken tiles, fascia boards and roofing felt,” said Bill, a retired builder.

Car hits three people before crashing into wall and bursting into flames: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/local-news/car-hits-three-people-before-8128459

A silver Mercedes convertible hit numerous pedestrians and a garden wall, leaving three people seriously wounded. The vehicle burst into a fireball and firefighters were called to extinguish it.

Someone needs to tame these autonomous vehicles before others are hurt

Not a building, but...a 'crash cushion'!!  At least they acknowledge that a driver was responsible for this one.

It looks like the sue-happy US legal system might make a lot more bollards show up in front of 7-11 convenience stores. The numbers are pretty wild, it averages out to about once per store over a 20 year period.

The case was the first in which attorneys had access to some 15 years of reports from 7- Eleven, which identified some 6,253 storefront crashes at 7-Eleven stores across the country, Power said. Data from a previous lawsuit against the company identified another 1,525 crashes between 1991 and 1996. The crashes could have been prevented if 7-Elevens had installed bollards — thick posts anchored in the ground — between storefronts and parking spaces, Power said.

Slightly old one - "the road was closed after an out of control car demolished part of a resident’s wall on the road."

https://westbridgfordwire.com/councillors-join-forces-to-demand-speed-re...

"As Sam Deacon said " I worry about the safety of pupils, parents and other pedestrians that use High Pavement on a daily basis. Nottinghamshire County Council needs to listen and act on our concerns urgently. This is the straw that broke the camel’s back.""

Complete with glum councillors in 2020. Safety improvements have been installed. A lightly segregated cycle track, crossing improvements, and traffic calming (ie down to one lane) has been installed, and a better cycle route has been installed, covering part of a route around the town centre.

The same Councillors are now putting out videos demanding that the scheme is useless.

Car crashes into branch of The Nottingham building society in Ilkeston

Pictures show a vehicle shattered the window of a branch of The Nottingham building society on Bath Street, Ilkeston, on Saturday, December 17. No injuries have been reported.

The crash has resulted in some calling for the pedestrianisation of the surrounding area. One person commented: "It's time no cars were allowed at all on Bath Street."

Picked this one up on 'tinternet. The image is from Dereham a few years back. I remember seeing the carnage after the incident while visiting. Some wag has added a rather apt verse.

A flurry of car crash incidents and driver sentencing on the Shropshire Star homepage in the last day or so.

  • Car overturns after hitting parked vehicle in Telford at 12.50am on Sunday.
  • Friday evening - fire and ambulance crews called to a south Shropshire village after a car rolled into a hedge.
  • Ludlow, 7.30pm on Friday - a vehicle collided with a parked car and cast iron downpipe on a building after rolling across the road.
  • Drink-driving van driver David Evans of Wem was twice the legal limit and had child sat on toolbox in the back. 18 month ban.
  • Craig Lowton was banned for 5 years after being caught driving a Mercedes C220 at up to 104 mph in Telford whilst disqualified and without insurance.
  • At 9am on Thursday a car ended up in a hedge near Albrighton after coming off the road in a "one-vehicle crash".
  • Around 5.30pm last Sunday a hatchback "left the road and been in collision with some metal railings" in Ellesmere.

On my way home on Friday I rode past a Corsa that had careered off the road into a hedge on a slight bend. I don't know when it happened but there was some police tape around it.
