Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

I love the sense of stillness you get on a frosty morning. Getting out nice and early.
Snatching those 'Indian summer' times because you know it's just going to get worse.
Wet bricks covered in mushy leaves.
The colourful falling autumn leaves and chill remind me of my advancing years and the need to find my merino undies.
Sketchy commutes in gale force winds - one man echelons
I like having hot tea in the first bidon on a crisp early morning ride. Feels luxurious!
slower runs and being able to appreciate the scenery
Less people out there cycling. Makes me feel even more awesome
Getting soaked one day followed by a perfect crisp sunny morning the next day to make up for it.
I love the knowledge that it will only get better, apart from getting worse for a few months first.
The leaves, the leaves and nothing but the leaves (and conkers).
The mist, colours and snug feeling in the seasons clothing.
Trying to keep wearing shorts as long as possible, until the legs start to resemble corned beef.
Oh yes please... they do some rite nice stuff
Conkers lovely conkers falling from the trees and hitting me in the conkers! I love Autumn........
I like the wildly changeable weather conditions, gusty winds, showers, and slippery leaves. Plus the always delightful risk of hitting a dropped branch.
That and the dark evenings.
The sound of crunching leaves, the sight of dappled sunlight on a misty morning, the smell of woodsmoke. The smug feeling of accomplishment in prolonging the summer with long rides out into the cold.
It's not the winter...
Riding at dusk with moon rising, sun setting and a deep darkening sky.
Just like tonight in fact
My favourite thing about autumn riding? Cyclocross starts! Nothing like a bit of muddy madness.
Crisp Autumn mornings
Autumn chill and shorter days sorts out who are recreational cyclists from hard-core all year riders.
Feeling proper smug on a warm late afternoon commute ride home, after being soaked and frozen in the morning. You laughed at me this morning. Who's laughing now!! Ha ha
Then the clocks go back and it's just the fun the darkness presents!
Autumn... clean crisp mornings and explosions of colour. Sunday rides with your mates and hot chocolate and cake when you're home.
top shop
The race season is over, the MAMILS stop polishing their ego & put on their mudguards and sociable club rides return. Bad weather is a great excuse to spend more time in cafes eating coffee & cake
It's got to be the crisp morning air, the first few frosty mornings and the feeling of refreshment it all brings with it.
That and the wind, the rain and the darkness.
Just makes for more intense suffering till the fair weather fans return next year.
best thing about autumn riding? Being able to wear Vulpine's flawless, luxurious AW riding gear of course!
Crisp early starts with warm sun later in the ride.
Any day you can ride is fine by me.
