Don't forget to refresh the road markings and fill in that pot hole he was trying to avoid.

I'm glad you did, it looked to me as though it could have been cut and pasted from almost anywhere in the past 20 years.

The highlighted "top" comment is such a cliche that I wondered if it was a cyclist in disguise.

Paywall article. But you'd think after the first incident he might attempt to avoid the potholes or at least maybe slow down a bit.

Wales on line has the advantage a 300+ driver comment cry and mental gymnastics fest.

No such luck in the Bournemouth Echo.

if you pay a visit, you'll notice Police appeal for dashcam footage after pedestrian injured - like there is most days.

I suspect people on the south side are going to Hadleigh instead as it takes the same amount of time and there are more shops.

It is very nice, and quiet,as long as you avoid the steep bits and steer clear of that Hintlesham road, that's dangerous in a vehicle, positively lethal on a bike, very nice area to ride.

As for the village shop, I expect the daft villagers use their 5min drives, to pop to supermarkets in Hadleigh or even Ipswich instead of walking to a shop

A steep bit anywhere east of the A10 - yeah, right.

RE: Another driving tragedy and another Coroner not grasping the bull by the horns,

Don't worry, in recognition that we need a broader, more integrated vision across the domain - just like we have for marine transport, rail and air ...

... the government has launched the Road Safety Investigation Branch!  Oh, wait, they didn't, they just said they will...

I think this stuff shouldn't all be down to the conscientiousness of coroners and Reports to Prevent Future Deaths - and blind hope that them asking a question (with the best understanding they can muster) will prompt some other body to do a review, then pass recommendations up the chain etc. etc. and eventually lead to powers that be directing that change happens.

Exact RideLondon 2024 route through Essex confirmed including slight change

https://www.essexlive.news/news/essex-news/exact-ridelondon-2024-route-t...

EDIT - just had a quick look at Essex Live Facebook - this story wasn't on there (a mercy, I guess - I've never ventured onto Nextdoor) , but one about the rate of car crashes in Essex was.

Apparently the council need to fix the roads, people need to stop using mobile phones, but overpopulation came out as a big factor.

Interesting that according to the local rag the people trying to stop lawbreaking are the 'protestors', and not the drivers flouting the rules and insisting on their illegal progress.

Better than 'vigilantes' I suppose.

It was a difficult one to decide to post on but I decided in the longer term all the excusing and downplaying isn't going to help anyone.

There's always the chance that the passenger was checking the app.

The police seem to be of the opinion that the damaged road signs and worn road markings were more to blame for the driver failing to see the crossroads rather than him perhaps not paying attention because he was checking his map.  The police in the article claimed they "believed" that the driver was accessing a mapping app "as he was new to the area" (so that's alright then).

‘Seismic shift’: push toward SUVs makes driving unaffordable for many

Luxury vehicles, production cuts and soaring insurance prices have sent the cost of US car ownership out of control

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/jan/29/us-car-costs-insurance-...

Actually quite an interesting read on how the car companies moved everything toward creating better profit margins, meaning that there is an ever shrinking range of 'affordable' motor vehicles (even second hand) in a country which was basically designed around your owning a car to do anything

(edited for typo:accordable-->affordable)

Exeter man fears 'silent assassin' e-bikes in city centre

Mark Tyler, a former ITV Westcountry presenter, says he has narrowly missed being hit by an e-bike in Exeter on at least two occasions

"It's down to us to ensure that we don't step out unless we're absolutely convinced that everything's ok but sometimes you see a bike in the distance and before you know it, it's on top of you."

https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/exeter-man-fears-silent-assass...

Gosh, Mike nearly hit on two occasions you say - let's you and me go for a bike ride, and see how long it takes us to notch up two "nearly hits"

Drivers are still going through Portland Terrace bus zone

Quote:

But yesterday morning, shortly after rush hour, 54 vehicles were seen driving through the zone near Westquay in just 30 minutes - despite signs and warnings.

My favourite reader comment has to be "The roads are for vehicles? Pavements for pedestrians. Not very entitled, its why they are there. The arrogance of councillors to take the road away from the public is astounding & they forget why they exist."

Victory for our great city' as clean air zones to be binned

More than 1,100 people signed the petition, which also opposed the introduction of the "15-minute-city"

yet here you are Council leader Jane Ashworth 5-6 years on doing nothing to protect your residents from pollution.

"The situation is fairly clear. Since 2018, when the Conservative Government told the city to clean up its pollution problems, there has been agreement that yes things need to change, and yes the decisions that are made and plans that are put forward need to come forward from within our city.

"Time after time, you will see a situation where something may be imposed by central Government that doesn't quite get it in terms of the way life works and traffic flows in our city. It's our intention to make sure that Government does not impose upon us a solution that doesn't meet our needs.

"We are working frequently with external contractors, with people who understand better than we do, the issues around polution in our city and we're trying to come up with something which says we do not need a CAZ (Clean Air Zone). What we need instead is some traffic changes around a specific area in Fenton.
