It begins to look like full road closures, rather than for example SALT is yet another thing drivers have brought on themselves in recent years.

A house built on cars is built on sand:

A448: The Fox Inn boss 'stressed' over road closure

The work by Severn Trent on the A448 started in May 2023 but had to be abandoned due to a road worker being seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle.

The closure is in place 24/7 and there is no through route to Kidderminster from Bromsgrove between Harvington Hall Lane and Dobes Lane.

A load of cars is great for your world heritage - Pay up, freeloaders.

Fears Devon town could lose world status over parking plan.

Thousands of people have backed the 'Stop the Meters' campaign

Mrs Sanders  (Tavistock BID manager Janna Sanders) worries that having to input a car registration number into a machine could cause unnecessary stress, especially if they also have to use a phone or app to pay. "They just want to pop into the grocery shop or the butchers, have a chat and buy something quickly. Having to negotiate parking meters is going to change everything about our high street. We are thinking about people's mental health as well as supporting the businesses we care about."

Not sure what stonojnr makes of this given the lack of response on their reporting portal

"One driver was caught using her mobile phone just weeks after passing her driving test. She will now have to re-sit both her theory and practical driving tests before being allowed to drive again." !!

Bat-wielding gang threaten and racially abuse road workers in Gloucester

They arrived in a silver Audi, a white Volkswagen Caddy and a silver Volkswagen Golf, were wearing tracksuits and armed with bats.

A group of workers were at a road closure on Barnwood Road, with the junction of North Upton Lane, when they were approached by a man driving a Smart Car. When he was told he could not pass due to the road closure, he became abusive towards the workmen before driving off.

A short time later, a group of men arrived in a convoy of cars, dressed in track suits and carrying bats, and made threats of violence to the workers. They also subjected them to racist abuse. Gloucestershire Police believe this incident could be linked to a report of anti-social driving in the area.

Now, what was it all those local councillors were saying/complaining about public money being thrown at cycle lanes?

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/06/uk-fuel-duty-cut-regres...

Quote:

Combined, the fuel duty freeze, which has been in place since it was introduced as a temporary measure in 2011, and the 5p cut to fuel duty, have cost the Treasury £100bn since 2011, according to the SMF (Social Market Foundation) analysis.

The two tax cuts to fuel are expected to knock £27bn off Treasury coffers over five years. The Conservatives attacked Labour’s ditched £28bn green investment promise over the same period as ruinously expensive.

Critics have said the fuel duty cut “helps the rich” while doing “little for the economy” as public transport worsens in quality.

In total, the SMF found the bottom fifth of earners would receive just 10% of the savings, compared with the top fifth who would pocket 24%.

Tragedy as dad reverses over and kills his toddler daughter after she wandered onto driveway in ‘tragic accident’

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/26428824/dad-reverses-over-kills-toddler-d...

Quote:

The tot had been playing in the garden, before walking down a path by the side of the family house.

She made her way out of an unlocked gate to the front driveway at around 10am, heard an inquest at Bradford's H M Coroner’s Court yesterday.

Haniyah sat down in the rear blind spot behind her dad's BMW Three Series and was tragically killed around 10 minutes later.

West Yorkshire Police’s Collisions Investigation Unit determined previously that Hanniyah's small size meant it was unlikely the car sensors would have detected her.

Senior Coroner … said: "The great tragedy here is that there was nothing to alert the father to her presence.”

I don't wish to seem unsympathetic, but "she sat down behind the [car] and was tragically killed around 10 minutes later."

So, the driver was so convinced of the efficacy of his parking sensors that he didn't check around his car at all for ten minutes before driving away?

And, the child's "small size meant it was unlikely the car sensors would have detected her" and "there was nothing to alert the father to her presence”?  But these cars are still OK to drive around in public?  You know, where there are children sometimes?

It's a terrible incident, and I feel awful for the family, but I also feel angry that nobody seems to have been criticised for anything - not the father for not checking, not whoever thought the child was still in the back garden, not the car manufacturer whose sensors don't pick up small humans.

Quite apart from the more serious design issue highlighted by this incident,

'The car manufacturing giants had originally planned to make the I-Pace sound like a “sci-fi spacecraft”, but in testing they found that the sound caused pedestrians to look up at the sky, instead of in the direction of the vehicle.'

When will designers learn that in order to warn people of something approaching, they need to make it sound like the thing?  I've had the same problem with bicycle bells, and I still haven't managed to find a loud enough, compact enough one that actually sounds like a bicycle bell.

Road Peace

1 - Road traffic collisions are the leading cause of death among children and young people aged 5-29 years

- In the event of a crash - the higher the speed, the higher the injury severity

- The frequency of crashes increases with the speed of traffic

2 We're horrified by these reckless and flippant comments.

@BCPCouncil , please tell us how you will address this? This clip, with your branding on it, is highly damaging. Shockingly, @cllrDove is the chair of your Children's Services Committee

"She actually does say this. “I’ve seen children hit by a bus and they’ve bounced up and asked if they could have a milkshake please” "

BMW driver rammed cars on M3 to improve their driving

A driver who caused "pandemonium" on the M3, driving at up to 130mph and ramming cars out of the way, told police he was targeting people whose driving did not meet his expectations.

"I want to open up everyone’s eyes to keeping the outside lane clear. That is how I drive in a computer game.

The high-speed rampage only stopped when he collided with another vehicle near junction two for Winchester, causing it to spin around in the road.

But Bathurst-Shaw-Binning then got in another driver's car and told her to drive on, adding: "We need to go and see Charlie."

He then got out of the vehicle and was arrested whilst hiding in the undergrowth at the side of the motorway.

When interviewed he told police he had gone out to get cigarettes.

He was also disqualified from driving for 10 years with a further 40 months added on to take into account the time he will serve in custody.

Mitigating, Islam Khan said his client has "sincere remorse" and "now upon reflection sees the consequences of his actions".

Gonna say it again, and I know it's only a handful of loudmouths, drivers styling themselves as victims is one of the most dangerous attitudes around.

Shocking moment Exeter van driver clashes with human bollards

Police say no offences were committed and described the incident as "a minor altercation"

It is worth repeating: why are the 'human bollards' described as protesters? There's a bus gate, and planters, and a traffic regulation order, all stopping through traffic there, so surely its people like the van driver in the clip who are the actual protesters??

They should also be concerned over the failure to drug test the driver for 12 hours! Surely it should be one of the first things they did?

Poor Policing. Poor lad didn't deserve to die at such a young age. And only 30 weeks: poor!
