Army of Exeter residents kick off at road closures plan
Point well and truly missed below - although the disabled lady's story is a challenge. If only we could set a simple respected rule that allowed her to drive where others cannot.
"When the changes come in we will only be able to turn left and come along Whipton Lane onto the main road to get to Whipton. I go to Whipton two to three times a week and my journey will now be three miles instead of 1.1 miles."

Locals mock Mercedes driver for mistaking Westcountry beach for 'free car park'

Drivers hit by ‘price penalty’ to meet Ulez rules
“While the overall used car market is in good health nationally, drivers are having to pay a price penalty to follow the rules in London." 🎻
Transport for London estimates that more than 200,000 drivers of non-compliant vehicles will be affected."

New plans for 'car free' homes next to Exeter Morrisons
It is the second phase of the major development on land next to Exeter’s Morrisons supermarket
Gotta love the comments on this one:
"Has the thought occurred to anyone that this idea will restrict those living in this apartment potentially freedom of travel? Where does mental health come into this"
Schrodinger's flat dweller simultaneously able to afford / not able to afford one / run a car
....and with house prices how they are, if these are even remotely affordable, somebody will end up having to live in them and have this assault on personal transport rammed down their throat.

Imagine what the driver would have been doing if it wasn't heavy animals that could have seriously damaged their car, but lighter cyclists.

Edit: I was looking for local newspaper reports of the incident for some BTL comments when I noticed this story. Why isn't it bigger news in the major press.
Not sure what's unclear here
Nimby. However he's right... barely wide enough for pedestrians AND cycling. There is the (one-way) church Street in the other side, albeit everyone would be held up eg for funerals (those entitled mourners, slowing traffic...)
Basically the fault of the entitled Church of England / historic builders (probably all Masons) for not putting in decent car parking / wider roads. Good luck with getting a faculty (is that right?) for adding some in the graveyard though. Not in keeping!
"I suspect there's going to be a floor in your explanation somewhere sir…"
How is that not blocking the pavement when there's not even enough space for him and his dog?
Lorry driver 100% at fault for not having the right lighting.
You know how it works in lancs !
Sometimes the council can do things just right.
"Hurt himself or a driver"
hurt a driver? As in drag them out of their metal box designed to protect them from high impact collisions and beat them?
Doesn't kicking someone while they are curled up on the ground count as an assault of some kind...?
Just been reading about this - jailed for twelve years, banned from driving for fourteen. Absolutely disgusting.
Pensioner left isolated by Somerset bus cuts months after death of husband
The council has drawn up proposals it is calling on the Metro Mayor to fund
Mrs Arnold said: “I have lived in Tunley for 60 years, during which time we have always had a bus service to and from Bath, and onwards to Timsbury and Paulton.
“The loss of the 768 and 179 bus services is a real problem for me.
“A few months ago I lost my husband, who had always driven his car which provided us with transport and for John to get to work, but regrettably I never learnt to drive.”

Thank goodness the police were all over it and gave him a stern warning. That'll teach them....
1. Put big, replaceable bumpers on the trams.
2. Legalize the trams pushing cars out of the way.
Ignoring the (assumed) drivist responses, as I've sat here thinking about this - I actually think it is about time.
I have been noticing pedestrian crossings changing to amber while (generally older) people are still trying to cross. I can imagine some drivers will start to drive through because "its amber and that means go"
ug not mg
Kensington.
Well done Surrey.
Though just walking down queues of traffic at the lights would give you more...
That journey is still 1.1 miles. It's only three miles in a car.
North Somerset council are doing works on the A369 between Bristol and Portishead. Adding a completely new bus lane at the Beggar Bush Lane traffic lights and changing the current 2+ lane into a bus lane at the approach to the Gordano roundabout over the motorway.
The road is on one bus route (Bristol--->Portishead--->Bristol) which provides a half hourly service each way.
Seems to me that the article could also be headed as "Entitled motorists ignore road markings of which they don't approve".
