Bedford motorist with long item poking out of car not 'acceptable'

I'm not sure what the problem is, they didn't actually kill anyone and, if they had, it would only have been cyclists and pedestrians.

All together, now:

Just the good ol' boys

Never meaning no harm

Beats all you never saw, been in trouble with the law

Since the day they was born

Straightening the curves, flattening the hills

Someday the mountain might get 'em but the law never will

Making their way, the only way they know how

That's just a little bit more than the law will allow

Just the good ol' boys, wouldn't change if they could

Fighting the system like two modern-day Robin Hoods

Milton Keynes councillor resigns after motoring conviction

I saw the headline and thought that, for once, a politician had done the honourable thing; been convicted of something and resigned. Then I read the article and the councillor was convicted of driving without due care and attention, on a provisional licence and without insurance (caught after crashing into another car) in May but only resigned recently as the local newspaper reported it.

Just an hour before the tree came crashing down the owner's young daughter had been sitting inside the vehicle

So on a day with a named storm blowing through, with parents claiming to have suspected this tree of being diseased, etc for years, he still parks downwind of it on their drive?

Beautiful Devon town rocked as it fears impact of controversial revamp

Devon’s highways chief, Cllr Stuart Hughes said the proposals would make Queen Street a “more attractive, accessible, inclusive place for visitors and locals alike." The leader of Teignbridge District Council, Cllr Martin Wrigley, acknowledged there is “some controversy” in Newton Abbot about the scheme, but said there is a “long history that shows pedestrianisation projects do improve the commerce in the street and the life of the street, and I think this is a change that needs to be done.”

Concerns though were raised by Cllr Janet Bradford, representing the South Devon Alliance. She said the view was that the changes would drive even more people to the out-of-town shopping centres, adding: “There’s absolutely no evidence that these plans will provide any benefit for either businesses or the users of Queen Street. But there is clear evidence in other towns that schemes to reduce convenient parking are very damaging.”

Patient left shocked over state of parking at Devon hospital

Ah, Bruce that's quite the roller-coaster ride you've taken me on there:

  • I guess if you are a blue badge holder, I have to let the 5-minute car journey pass
  • People who can't manage a parking app, but are somehow perfectly safe to drive a car
  • but you really lost me at "you can't have a new hospital because cars"
  • "When are you going to sort out the parking situation? There are at least two places where a multi-story car park could be built" - you know what, Brucey, my guess is hospital managers have got their hands full with providing the clinical service - what do you reckon? That said, there will be an Estates team managing the issue day to day, and who could probably tell you what the options are for things like multi-storey car parks are if you want to induce still more demand on to the site, but probably not where the money to do it would come from - in true driver style you have no clue about that, do you?

Drivers charged more for parking if they want to pay with cash

“There are hundreds of thousands of older people who depend on their cars but who don’t use computers. Hiking their parking costs is a disincentive to them getting out and about, and engaging fully in society.

“We know that councils are under huge financial pressure but we hope this one will reconsider its approach, which has the unfortunate effect of clobbering some older motorists more than everyone else.”

Tackling air pollution ‘could ease pressure on mental health services’

It seems perfectly obvious that the driver's view of the 60 foot tall tree would've been almost totally obscured by the small bush in the foreground and therefore no further action should be taken.
