Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

It must have been the house's fault, it couldn't be the fault of the cars as they're in hi-vis and we all know that hi-vis will stop all accidents from happening.....

Can't a person go out and have a few drinks without the risk that they're going to get arrested because their car has spontaneously flipped onto its side?

This seems to be a "car hits..." sub-theme I've noticed lately; it's recently happened to my sister in her little side road of 250 yards length - the driver flipped the car and didn't get away. Speed along a titchy road in the dead of night and hit parked cars.

Bournemouth man jailed for stealing and crashing girlfriend's car

'A victim impact statement from the owner of the house, read by Ms Hart, said her anxiety has increased and she had to take time off work to deal with insurance.

She said: “Every time I hear pebbles or a car driving fast, I get uncomfortable and feel anxious.

“This is not something anyone should be made to feel where they should feel relaxed and safe.”'

BBC compilation: cars on bollards:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-59641534

Solution? Remove the bollards.

To be fair I think the plan is to do camera enforcement instead and most of the vehicles in the compilation seemed to be going through slowly at least - it does look rather slim. But if they were needed in the first place...

Here we are - complete with some missing trim on Streetview.

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.675597,-0.3793403,3a,75y,224.18h,77.18t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1se_MF_5Xp8MJlJ79EWZwlQQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Can't really see why you have a problem nor why lots would need to go through there - though it is the closest access to the M1 I guess.

"FIREFIGHTERS are spending less time dealing with fires and more handling road accidents and rescue operations."

I often wonder to myself what proportion of the blue light services' time and resource is absorbed in clearing-up the daily mess left by road violence. It's another cost of car culture, another that keeps a low profile.

"By contrast to the 2,218 fire calls – 461 fewer than the same period last year – there were 4,605 special service calls, which include road traffic collisions, lift releases and ambulance assistance, up eight per cent from 2020."

Car smashes into wall forcing road in Bristol to be closed

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/car-smashes-wall-forcing...

Quote:

A car crashed into a wall on a Bristol road on Monday (December 20), causing "significant damage".

Police, fire, and the ambulance service were called to Shaldon Road in Ashley Down at around 11:20am to a report of a single vehicle in which a car hit a wall, and the road was closed while the crash was dealt with.

A woman involved had "self-rescued" from the car before emergency services arrived, and she is not thought to have suffered any injuries.

So - "woman involved", not "the driver"?  Clearly the car escaped, took a woman hostage, and then drove itself into a wall...

The scene in The Detectorists where the mayor asks the club in help finding his chain came to mind when I saw the picture of him in his getup.

To knock both cars 50meters up the road does seem like he saw it pretty much last minute. So how long is "momentary"?

Just came across this. I was impressed with this nugget of local journalism:

"I would have guessed it was coming down the hill and slid and rolled under the trees", the eyewitness said of the Volkswagen van.

(I was under the impression that eye witnesses would be able to describe what they actually saw).

He's on fire! It doesn't even take any effort though - some years back I've seen a car parked at the end of a steep street slip its handbrake and roll down to the bottom - that was three other cars and the house that it ended up in at the bottom. Nobody hurt remarkably.
