Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

New definition of motorhome: A house with a motor embedded in it.

https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/cambridgeshire-road...

Probably best to leave it where it is. Most likely now structural and also makes a rather useful extension.

Self-driving cars to be allowed on UK roads this year

"...drivers will not be required to monitor the road or keep their hands on the wheel" - no change there, then.

Ploughed into a building, at last, some realistic language.

Though of course it was the car that did it, nothing about the driver.

Blimey, the comments get very racist.

But getting back to the hinderance to emergency services, I thought it was cyclists, cyclist infrastructure and LTNs that stopped them on "shouts"

Could never be the "otherwise" law abiding motorists...

Cheers Dave, and over 300 comments, a good thread.

And it seems a gift that keeps on giving.

Just how?
Garage door (s) on the left, car at right-angles. I wonder if the owners know each other.

Police dogs at car crashes - the next new RCC thread!  "What's that, Lassie? He's legged it to his mate's house?"

I especially like the way these people leave their ?girlfriend? injured enough to need hospital. The rest of us don't stand much chance then.

Ever more motorised mayhem for the grown-ups in life to deal with. Still, a reminder to cyclists not to venture out after dark, wear a helmet and pay road tax.

One can only hope that the consequential damages claimed will be high with a commensurate rise in premium.

(And why do they block out the plate?)

Talk about "blink and you'll miss it"!  On this rare foray into US local news my watch was preceded by an advert for cancer treatments.

Nothing is ever a driver's fault, cars will be cars.  For once, the good grace of an apology In person. At what point does this house become de facto uninhabitable and uninsureable?

I reckon I'm starting to see some pretty robust fencing going up here and there.  Are we getting to a point where you're not safe in your own home in an increasing number of places?

"which came about 65 years after a runaway parked police car smashed into the same shop window."
Any photos of that one ?

I can imagine the driver, 'Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight', realising he was as powerless against 'the turbid ebb and flow of human misery'(and of the Channel) as old King Cnut.

(Thanks for bringing a little poetry into our lives David.)

I was so surprised when I saw that it was an Audi

couldn't be helped, no hi vis on the shop. I bet the occupants weren't wearing helmets either. Perhaps they should be .....if it saves one life.

Black shop fronts should be banned, too high to see. All the driver would have seen was the reflection of his own headlights and the indecision about whether to pass the oncoming car on the left or right was clearly fatal.

Although it's not uncommon to find two drivers of audis/bmws/jags/mercs facing each other on single track roads with neither prepared to yield, so maybe the driver expected the other car to get out of the way.

Wycombe Wheeler scooped this one yesterday, but worth adding when he got to hospital, they found "Dickhead" tattooed up both arms.

cyclists should have a means of identity because they are always breaking the law and are not held to account.

Audi driver speeding in Maidenhead “needed the facilities”

An Audi driver who was caught driving at nearly 80mph in a 40mph zone avoided punishment after providing a laundry list of excuses...

At least the only death here was my faith in the justice system: this stinks.

Good length of ban until they do life time ones. However can they do the original owner for letting him drive it and can they do the passengers for aiding and abetting?

Railway lines blocked after train hits car at level crossing

The force said that luckily the vehicle was only clipped by the train.

I just felt that that picture perfectly illustrated what can happen if you fail to tame or break-in your motor car.

(edit) - dammit!  I didn't see that you'd posted the story.  I'd filtered by 'newest first' and missed it.  Sorry, hawkinspeter <wrist-slap>

why do they block out the plate?

To prevent anyone jumping to the conclusion that a specific driver was at fault, when the incident wouldn't have occurred if the building hadn't been there at night or at busy periods so it must bear most of the blame.
