Mum halts 5G mast build by parking car where pole the height of the Angel of the North will stand
A South Shields resident has blocked the construction of the new 'eyesore' mast by parking her car where workers want to erect it

this idea is catching on - but wait, is she not now trapped in her home? Or does it not work that way?
Essentially banning the majority of all cars I'd have thought, the average car weight thesedays is already 1600kg, the average SUV starts at over 2000kg. Evs are up around 2400kg.
Let's hope no pedestrians collide with it while it's stuck there.

The additional points would make him a 12-point totter, which leads to an inevitable ban
Except it doesn't, as we all know on here
The sentence for the van driver is getting there, and the fourteen and a bit ban almost seems reasonable.
Can't park there mate. What's that - you're just dropping someone off? Doesn't matter, you're inside the ULEZ (Undertaker Loitering Exclusion Zone).
I saw that one, but not on Kent Online - interesting how there was emphasis on how "clearly" her mind was unbalanced becasue of the menopause (?) and nothing about how parking on the pavement is very very inconvenient and driving on the pavement is illegal.
Not convinced her mind was "unbalanced", but if that helped her avoid an even worse sentence...
...but no new staff to enforce it and exemptions for deliveries. Expect to see some creative definitions of the same.
Still, sometimes commitments in theory *do* mean something - I think this does signify positive change. I mean - if you can't even do this in a city with "narrow historic streets" which has a year-round tourist sector to the economy...
Maybe it'll help the buses get through? And even unblock some cycle lanes? OK... that's a dream as many of these are totally legal to park in...
It’s chicken and egg – do aggressive drivers choose certain cars?
Yes. Nothwithstanding the usual comment that 'it's just confirmation bias', there is no doubt that a bearded bloke (or worse still, a bearded bloke with tattoos) in an Audi or BMW is guilty and a psychopath. There aren't enough Porsches or Subarus around here to form a reliable opinion, but Audis and BMW drivers are also more likely to be guilty of MOT, insurance and VED offences- hence T55 UEY today. No MOT for 8 months, reported in July, condoned by Lancashire Constabulary because they do tug their forelocks at drivers of big, expensive cars
What with the storm perhaps Bristol's fumes - or London's smog - has been blown down there and is making folks giddy?
Direct quote "but I only use the car to run to the shops or ferry the children around to places..."
No doubt the locals also complain about poor mobile signal too.
your point?
Luckily this wasn't Lancashire:
"After another short discussion, the chairman announced Peters would be banned for six months saying they had not found exceptional hardship in his case."
Also being 1960s born, etc I was on holiday at the time of the announcement and claimed a 75% refund.
Although I did like "don't pillage our village", I'm worried about the normal hard working salt of the Earth families to feed drivers who look to be stuck behind this column of er irresponsible don't have a job er planet huggers
We're in the same territory here as "that cyclist hit my car with his hand".
But this is great. She is learning she doesn't need the car.
It's not just an EV problem. Take a look at Google maps most recent view of that car park.
You've got Land Rover, Range Rover, BMW X5, Merc C class, couple of Mini countrymans, all comfortably over 1600kg, some approaching 2200kg. So would break the 1500kg weight limit.
Unless you're in a 20+year old car or a Twingo Fiat 500 equivalent, that car park ain't for you.
It was only the 'inevitable' I was remarking upon. Even in Lancashire it's possible to accrue 9 points for automated offences like speeding- just not for offences against cyclists
"Her car is understood to be legally parked so no one is able to move it without Elizabeth's permission - which she says she won't be giving."
that I doubt sincerely
My wife's electric car, a first generation Leaf, would qualify. And of course my MINI easily would.
Even my previous car, a 2006 Forester, would be okay.
sounds good
Wonder if she's cracked yet - the boys have got football this morning
The article says the council made a mistake and won't be enforcing it. I suspect that the fact it's "30 cwt", it only applies to the unladen weight of goods vehicles, and Eaton Park maybe had a legacy goods vehicle restriction before the council opened the car parks
So nothing to see here...
Awwwwww....
not a '70s kid? You don't need that new bar tape, you need:

Good spot! (Perhaps we need a "not in keeping" thread now too? "This bike shelter / cycle lane / mini park is not in keeping with our beautiful Victorian car-lined roads", said Mrs. Tesla at number 2985...)
If you block 5G does that keep them from trapping you in 15 minute cities? Those are clearly a plot by the rich to oppress the poor by making their house prices increase because the neighbourhood has less traffic ... er ...
But, apparently, Scooby Doo was an atheist. They'd be doing a lot more unmasking if they went to Vatican City

The comments are right on the money!
Looks more like it was at the Vuelta España than the Giro there...
The mast is 20m high in a residential area.
I think she has a very good point.
